Looking at CD Covers

I like the choice of the heavy, wide black font which balances the black figure on this cd cover.  I also like the placement of the small text which is aligned with the larger letters.  Even though the words are tiny, their placement makes them prominent and gives them emphasis.
This cd cover shares some characteristics with the first one above.  It has a simple title at the top which balances the figure below. With the medium blue background color choice, this cd cover design was able to use both black and white text effectively.
This font, when viewed closely, has an almost liquid look to it, as if it was stamped onto the cd cover with paint.
I like the vintage style of this cd cover design which was achieved by combining actual wood type printed on a letterpress and then arranged on the computer.

Wordmark Logo Examples

I think this example is very effective.  I like the font choice and the fact that only a slight change in the P was enough to evoke the idea of a pin or thumbtack.

I don't know what this product or company is but I like the displaced Q.  The progressive size of the letters adds to the feeling of a tight space.

I like the simplicity of this logo.  The upside down As don't seem to make the word any more difficult to read, which I wouldn't have expected.

From My Bookshelf

This is a very simple composition.  I like the choice of a narrow font with a strong vertical direction.  It echos the vertical lines in the man's arm, face and shirt and the vertical direction of the woman.

Another very simple image.  I like the way the varied colors, sizes and direction of the letters gives them an animated feel so they seem to be interacting with the characters.

I love bacon but...

this is kind of disgusting.  I don't think I will ever be using this font.  But I appreciate the creativity involved!

Folding Laundry

Apparently, typography is everywhere!  As I was folding laundry I ran across several good examples.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

I like the way this logo uses negative space to create the letter shapes.
I assume the letters in this design are hand-drawn.  I think it's very effective.

Some Favorite Examples

This is an exhibition poster from 1929.  The designer was William Addison Dwiggins.  I like the spacing of the letters and the consistent size used throughout, which makes the type become a horizontal element in the overall design.

This example is a record album cover from 1946.  The designer was Alex Steinweiss.  I like the placement of the type in the overall design and the use of color.
